i got another question to think about...

i told my mom about riyaas lending me the guitar to bring home, and asked whether anything was wrong with playing musical instruments in islam. she just said (not blabber) something about the prophet only allowing the drum thing, but not stringed instruments. so i (actually my mom asked me) went to research about this topic online.

interestingly, the first website i got after searching in google is in wikipedia (click on the link to find out more). why wikipedia? a quote caught my attention: "Islamic views on the allowance of musical instruments and singing"

i got a lot of interisting information which gave me the idea to blog it out. first of all, a quote from the prophet himself: "There will be among my Ummah people who will regard as permissible adultery, silk, alcohol and musical instruments." Does this quote refer to instruments other than percussion ones? Or the whole variety of musical instruments? If the latter were true, what about the drumming stuff the prophet listened to, played by his fellow followers?

driven by these questions, i delved deeper....

i found out that there were different types of islamic music around the world. some such examples are the nasheed and sufi music. unfortunately, this doesn't answer my question.

so i delved even deeper. again.

i found out that some beleive that only vocal music is permissible and other instruments are forbidden. most muslim scholars say that since the Qur'an and the sayings of the prophet are against music, music should be forbidden.

some other muslims accept only drums.

yet others still say that instruments are allowed as long as it does not use any sinful acts or anything bad. this is agreed by modern muslim scholars.

in islam, the prophet mentioned that if there were to be anyhting a person is unsure of, about whether the thing is allowed or not, it is advised not to carry on with it.

weirdly, this does not answer my question. so is the playing of guitar allowed or not?????

what do you people think?
